Your Step-by-step Guide To CPR Training

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR training is a form of life saving technique that is focused on restoring the functionality of the heart. Several institutions offer this kind of training throughout the country. The core of cardiopulmonary training involves attending the coursework, usually in advanced First Aid, and then sitting a certification exam. These days, you can conveniently complete the entire CPR training from the comfort of your home. All you have to do is register for an online CPR certification program with an accredited institution.

In order to become a certified CPR practitioner, you have to undergo a training certification in CPR. This certification verifies that you do have the necessary skills to revive a patient. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can obtain your CPR training.

i.    Decide on whether you wan to attend physical classes or get your training online
Due to the nature of your schedule, or location, you may not be able to attend physical classes thus opt for online training. If you choose this route, you need to check the institution’s website to acquaint yourself with the nature of courses that they are offering. It is important that you register with an institution that offers complete training in CPR, which includes theory work, practical training and the certification training exam.

ii.    The institution’s accreditation
Before enrolling for your CPR training, whether online or on campus, you need to be sure that the institution and the certification that it is offering is recognized by the American Hearts Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Still, both the Red Cross and AHA offers CRP training thus you may want to consider them. The last thing you want is to spend your time, money and effort studying only to realize once you are through that the institution has no accreditation whatsoever.

iii.    Complete the training, including the practical training
Some institutions have a working relationship with local health institutions for their students’ practical training. Others incorporate these practical training in their online training module. In order to obtain your CPR certification, you have to sit the skills test in person and pass with at least 80%-85%. Therefore, you need to ensure that you enroll in an institution that offers or arranges for practical training as part of the course module.

iv.    Obtain your certificate
Once you are through with your coursework, practical tests and certification exam, you will be issued with a CPR certification. This certification is valid for up to two years from the date of issue; thus, you need to renew it upon expiry in order to continue practicing. In order to renew your certificate, you can either take refresher courses or demonstrate your existing cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills.

Getting your CPR training online can be very easy and convenient; more so if you are working a full time job that you cannot afford to quit. You can save a lot of time and money when you pursue your studies online. However, before enrolling in any institution, you have to be sure that they are accredited, offering valid courses.
